7. Demonstrate an independent and reflective approach to personal and professional development.

A new method I wish to add to my professional skillset is matte painting. The 'Excelsior' brief was the right opportunity to attempt it. Although I looked at multiple sources explaining the process of matte-painting, I mainly followed this tutorial.  It clarifies what the right stock images and textures  to use are, depth of field and aerial perspective - all important elements in the making of environment art.

The first thing the tutorial clarifies is to have a plan of the painting before starting. All visual problems must be resolved at the sketch stage. Once having started, on top of block colours the textures and photography must be embedded, following that initial idea, not altering it to fit the stock images. Then adding the impression of depth through some visual tricks, and a few finishing touches and my first matte painting is complete.
