3. Critically analyse their own work and compare this to relevant research and current professional practice.

I critically analyse in great depth my artwork based on T.S. Elliot's 'Preludes' great detail here here:

Imagination
(Personal Artwork based on Prose)

To compare my own work to an image from contemporary professional practice I apply the image that provided the main inspiration for the creation of my 'Imagination' -  the 2011 Martin Scorsese film 'Hugo'. In particular one the main posters for it. I believe the comparison is quite applicable due to the Photographic elements present in both pieces.

The main reason for the use of this film as inspiration for my digital painting was the instant association the importance of the clock within the film - an element I also wanted to include due to the line from the poem 'Six o' clock'.

Another element I really liked was the sense of magic and awe - as from a children fairy tale. I believe that was achieved in the poster through elements like the golden fire-like particles reminding of a starry sky. The way the image merges with the background in a smoke from a speeding steam train was the approach I tried to take when painting the colourful cloud of imagination clashing with the reality of the child's bedroom.
